The Newest New Low

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on August 14, 2012

The most embarrassing vice president in recent history went to a town with a significant African-American population and told them that the Romney-Ryan campaign “wants to put [them] back in chains.”

And of course, the Obama campaign sends out one of its chief hacks to say that the campaign has “no problem” with the comments.

Do I have to go into the many, many, many, many, many ways in which this kind of rhetoric is appalling? Do I have to explain that said rhetoric stems from the fact that the Obama campaign has no economic record to boast of, and believes that in order to win re-election, it has to tear down its opponents–truth and decency be damned? And while I am asking questions, is it November 6th yet?

Incidentally, I would sooner take lessons in scientific integrity from Fleischmann and Pons than I would take lessons in how to maintain a civil political tone from Team Obama and its allies.

UPDATE: Via e-mail from the Baseball Crank, we are reminded that it wasn’t either Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan who boasted that their state was “a slave state”:

I’ve written before that if Joe Biden didn’t exist, we would have to invent him. But on second thought, I believe it is best that we don’t.
