Of Political Correctness and Latin American Dictators

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on July 29, 2012

Paul Bonicelli points out a recent failure to accurately describe the extent to which modern day Latin American autocrats/totalitarians are repressing the political rights of their people, undermining governmental institutions that might serve as a check on their power and undercutting the ability of their countries to grow and prosper. I will add my own observation that while the media usually has no compunctions whatsoever about calling out right wing dictatorships, it seems to have problems labeling left wing dictatorships for what they are. While this practice does wonders for revealing media bias, it obviously does no favors whatsoever for anyone interested in maintaining an informed and intelligent discourse regarding world affairs.
