Quote of the Day

I wish during the years I was in public office I had this firsthand experience about the difficulties businesspeople face. . . . We are choking off business opportunity.

Former Senator George McGovern, after having tried to start a bed and breakfast, only to be stymied by excessive regulation. Just imagine how much more difficult it must be to set up bigger, and more complicated companies.

The issue is setting up new smaller, less complicated companies. They can’t afford the fixed costs of regulation. Once companies do get large they can afford the lawyers, accountants, consultants required to comply. One of the main reasons that large companies aren’t very opposed to many regulations.
