A 42% Cut in Chinese Bullet Train Spending

Walter Russell Mead has the details. To quote Ben Domenech, from whom I got the story, “Thomas Friedman hardest hit.” Indeed.

    Bullet train takes a bullet.

I learned from playing Sid Meier’s Railroad Tycoon II that a train can’t pay for itself unless there are thriving markets at each end of the proposed track. I know the computer game comparison sounds silly, but if you play the India scenario the way the British did, history kinda repeats itself.
