Turnabout is Fair Play

A few years ago, back when Republicans controlled the Senate, there was talk about using the “nuclear option” to put a stop to dilatory tactics used by Democrats to obstruct work in the upper body. Democrats–and much of the media–denounced this threat as an infringement on the rights of the minority, which traditionally have received a lot more respect in the Senate than they have in the House.

Fast forward to yesterday, and you will see that infringing upon the rights of the minority has gotten a whole lot more appealing for Democrats.

Notice that the use of the nuclear option involved overruling a determination from the Senate parliamentarian stating that Republicans were acting entirely within the rules of procedure. And of course, the hypocrisy behind this move is plain as day. I presume that people like Harry Reid won’t complain when Democrats are in the minority, and Republicans remember the title of this blog post.
