Somebody Doesn’t Remember Their Star Wars

Andrew Sullivan links to a paper that informs us that in its two iterations, the Death Star “only ever manages to get off a single shot.”

This isn’t correct. The Death Star destroys Alderaan in A New Hope, destroys a Rebel cruiser in Return of the Jedi in order for the Emperor to show Luke Skywalker that the Death Star is operational, and we see it destroy a third cruiser as well later.

That’s three separate shots. There may have been others that we may not have seen. And for all that is wrong with the Star Wars universe, there is, of course, something fundamentally evil and immoral about not knowing all of this trivia and minutiae.
