Dear Department of Justice

Perhaps it is high time to have a United States Attorney check to see whether John Cook has committed any crimes. I am betting that he did.

And now, a message to people on the port side of the political divide: Remember how outraged you said you were when you thought that Karl Rove outed Valerie Plame? Remember how imperative you said it was to ensure that the identities of covert operatives remain secret? Well, here’s your chance to reaffirm your national security bona fides by calling for Cook–and Gawker–to be punished for trying to out a CIA operative. Are you going to rise to the challenge, or are you only concerned about the welfare of covert operatives when you think that showing such concern will help you score partisan political points?
