“She Is Living Up to the Most Skeptical Assessment of Her”

Heather Mac Donald on Sarah Palin. More in the article on the threat–quite properly defined–to the GOP and to the center-right’s claim to the the party and the movement of ideas if Palin either remains a leader of the Republicans/center-right, or if she becomes the leader by capturing the GOP Presidential nomination. I am pleased to see that people like Mac Donald, Matt Labash, George Will, Charles Krauthammer, and Peter Wehner have come out to warn that Palin would make a poor representative of the GOP and the center-right. But as Adlai Stevenson might warn us, in pointing out that Palin is an unworthy would-be leader, it is not enough to have the support of every thinking person. A majority is needed.

Some of Palin’s critics are living up to the most skeptical assessments of them, too — Exhibit A being Mr. Labash’s clever little remark about the “naughty-librarian glasses.” There’s something worthy of the “movement of ideas,” eh? I’d actually prefer that Palin not run for the ’12 nomination, but am not impressed by most of the other names currently being touted as potential candidates. And while I’d likely vote for a dead dog over Obama, I’d like to have the opportunity to vote for someone who gallantly espouses conservative views.
