Movie Review: “True Grit”

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on February 27, 2011

I had given up doing movie reviews some time ago, and I am not sure how faithful I will be about doing them in the future. But the Coen Brothers’ remake of True Grit deserves mention, as it is marvelous. The cast–especially Hailee Steinfeld, who positively steals the show–is nothing short of marvelous, the cinematography is beautiful, stark, and dramatic, the plot is engrossing, the characters are deeply drawn, and the dialogue is excellent. Those who believe that Westerns are somehow lacking in intellectual substance will find themselves flummoxed by this movie, which is nothing short of excellent in every way. Go see it in theaters before you fully miss your chance.
