Fearless Prediction of the Day

The Daily Beast is going to become the go-to place for conspiracy theories regarding Trig Palin’s matrilineal line. I didn’t know that Tina Brown was interested in achieving that kind of distinction.

I would like to think that a firing was involved here; that the Atlantic finally listened to people like me, decided that it cared about its reputation, and got rid of Andrew Sullivan. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, and Sullivan appears to be leaving under his own power. Alas.

Are you comforted or incensed at the fact that Mrs. Megan McArdle herself is now the Atlantic’s premier blogger?

Whether she is the “premier blogger” depends on whom you ask. Coates, Fallows, Goldberg, and Crook are at the Atlantic as well, and each is a formidable presence. Of course, I think highly of Megan McArdle. I have enjoyed her writing since discovering it in 2002, and having met her, I know that she is as kind and decent as she is clever.

Yay! this means I can renew my subscription to The Atlantic – it’s still not as good as it was under Michael Kelly, but it does have the aforementioned McArdle and those other fellows.
