Why Are the Democrats About to Lose the House?

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on October 31, 2010

Brian Baird, a retiring Democrat, has a lot of the answers. None of them are complimentary towards the House Democratic leadership.

It’s important to note that Baird voted for all of the major Democratic initiatives, so it isn’t as though this criticism is coming from a recalcitrant Blue Dog Democrat. I imagine that there will be a great deal of self-reflection that takes place amongst the members of the Congressional Democratic Caucus when, as expected, the Democrats lose the House, and see their margin in the Senate whittled considerably. But as Baird notes, that self-reflection was almost completely absent from the Congressional Democratic Caucus over the past four years. Once more, one might argue that the Republicans don’t deserve to win this midterm election cycle. But once more, it is clear that Democrats deserve to lose it.
