Worst. Senate. Majority. Leader. Ever.

Honestly, who is this consistently silly?

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had an unusual form of praise for New York’s junior senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, this morning at the fundraiser Mayor Bloomberg hosted for him at his townhouse – referring to her as “the hottest member” as she sat just a few feet away, according to three sources.

The comment prompted Gillibrand to turn red, according to the sources, and created a bit of stir among the small crowd there.

“It was pretty shocking when he said it,” said one source familiar with the remark and the reaction.

As the story notes, a Republican got into trouble for calling Gillibrand “attractive.” Let’s see if the same standards apply to Reid. They should; his comments were at least as patronizing, and he should have known that they would drown out praise he offered for her supposed substantive contributions in the Senate.

Worse than Joe Robinson (D-AR, 1933-1937), who was a stone racist? Or the ex-Kleagle Byrd (1977-1980)?

But you haven't defined your criterion of merit, so comparisons are not possible for anyone else.

My criterion of merit in this case is competence. And Reid has none.
