Theory of the Day

If a Republican President’s administration were hit with the god-awful jobs report that closes out the Obama Administration’s workweek, the tsunami of media criticism directed at the administration of that Republican President would be utterly astounding to behold.

Yeah. The report was that bad.

But all is not lost. We may have ourselves yet another census declared by some enterprising Administration official to cover up the fact that high-wage, long-term jobs are being shed like they are going out of style.

All sarcasm aside, I know that it is unfair to blame an American President for the employment picture, when in fact, the American President is relatively powerless to affect the employment picture. But again, that never stopped people like President Obama from attacking Republican Presidents when the latter were faced with bad unemployment numbers. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and President Obama is about as powerless as were his predecessors to influence the employment picture. I just wish that people like him would remember that when Republican Presidents are in office.
