I presume that Reid and others want us to have a health care system more like the National Health Service in Britain. The problem, of course, is that the British cannot afford the NHS anymore.
More here. It’s interesting to see how Europe now realizes it cannot afford a cradle-to-grave welfare state, while we in the United States seem to believe that such a state ought to be our destiny. What makes us think that we will be able to afford for the long term what Europe increasingly cannot?
