Why Is The Coast Guard Preventing Barges From Sucking Up Oil?

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on June 18, 2010

It is a good question, and Bobby Jindal has every reason to be upset. Not only are the barges being stopped from working on containing the oil spill, but no one in the Obama Administration or the Coast Guard can give Jindal a straight answer on why the stoppage in work has taken place, and it took moving Heaven and Earth to get the barges busy again.

It’s not as though we have the luxury of waiting to see how much worse the spill can get. If everyone involved in dealing with the crisis shared Governor Jindal’s sense of urgency, we would all be in a better place right now, collectively. Unfortunately, while Jindal is active and in command, his counterparts in the federal government are lackadaisical, and a sense of drift pervades all of their efforts.
