Okay, Let's All Be Serious Now

I know that it is popular to joke about Andrew Sullivan’s decline as a pundit, but the reason the jokes are funny is that they have an element of truth to them. And once all the jokes stop, the truth remains that Sullivan’s writings are more bizarre than ever. I mean, what does one say to the accusation that Israel is fighting Hamas because it wanted to issue “an implicit challenge to the incoming US President with Hussein as his middle name”? Since when did Sullivan become a psychoanalyst, and how did he get an entire nation to lie down on the couch in his office? Also, does the sudden tendency to engage in Freudian speculation mean that Sullivan is now tired of his role as the chief obstetrician for the Atlantic?
