Backing a repeal of Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell is absolutely the right thing to do, and it is very helpful to the cause that the former Vice President and Secretary of Defense has gotten behind the effort to repeal. One hopes that he will follow up on his announced support for the repeal by getting on the phone with Republican Representatives and Senators, and urging them to back the change in policy.

There is no reason for servicemen and women to lie about who they are in order to be able to serve the country. There never was. And hopefully, soon, there will no longer need to be.

“There is no reason for servicemen and women to lie about who they are in order to be able to serve the country. There never was. And hopefully, soon, there will no longer need to be.”

That kind of feels directed at me and my ilk (hard as it may be for you to fathom, there actually are people out there who don't share your beliefs that any lying is involved, and there are no reasons servicemembers should keep their sexual preferences to themselves and never were). Unfortunate that you can't/won't respect our point of view. It's almost as if you're trying to get us to stop reading. All of which is too bad, because I agree with you so often, but every now and then I notice something, like this, that pushes me closer and closer to the notion that you're very much of the “my way or the highway” sort.

I don't disrespect your point of view. I disagree with it. And just as you state your views forcefully, so will I. Seems only fair.
