The Odd Blog Posts Of Andrew Sullivan

The Blogosphere’s own Ahab takes to task bloggers who “diss” and “excoriate” Sullivan’s posts on the issue of Trig Palin’s matrilineal line, while failing to note that contra Sarah Palin’s claims, the Palins have never released a birth certificate confirming that Trig is Palin’s son. Quoth Sullivan:

Why will they not do so with Palin? What are they afraid of? How long do we have to put up with a press corps unable to do its basic job?

To which the reply might be: “Why should any of us give a hoot about the issue in the first place?”

Perhaps Andrew Sullivan genuinely regrets having latched on to the issue of Trig Palin’s matrilineal line, but feels he is in too deep and has to continue to commit to the story in order to save face. Of course, this is a generous interpretation of Sullivan’s motivations. There are other interpretations out there that involve men in white coats.

Why does the Atlantic continue to allow Sullivan to embarrass it with his presence at the magazine?

Why does the Atlantic continue to allow Sullivan to embarrass it with his presence at the magazine?

Uh, well, probably because his ravings draw a lot of traffic and every time sites like this pick up on it, he gets more, ergo stop mentioning him at all if you want him to go away (and anyone w/ even a modicum of sanity indeed does)!

“Traffic” does not equate to “journalistic integrity.” And Sullivan's rantings do not deserve to go without criticism. The traffic created by that criticism is minimal; unfortunately, Sullivan has enough fans so that he can sustain his traffic based on that alone. The point is to shame him into stopping, or to shame the Atlantic into firing him, and that effort should not be halted.

Truer words are seldom spoken…I offer as proof…Fox News!

Typical conservative response. “He whom we don't agree with must be removed”. Why can't you just…simply disagree?

Or MSNBC/Maddow/Olbermann/Schultz, or the NYT. Anyway, your non sequitur does not detract from my point.

Right. Like liberals never try to get conservatives fired for expressing opinions that liberals don't like. You must love strawmen.
