Still Not Enough Votes For A Public Option

So reports National Journal (subscription required). At this point, I have to think that the only way a public option may overcome the manifold obstacles in its path in the House and the Senate is if any health care reform bill containing a public option turns into a Christmas tree. Look for deficit costs to skyrocket even further as a consequence.

Don’t you feel warm and fuzzy about that eventuality?
