Passage Of The Day

The Obama prize has generated debate and become an instant punch line around the world. When David Beckham was named “man of the match” in England’s World Cup qualifying soccer game this week despite playing for just 30 minutes, his coach, Fabio Capello, mocked the honor as being “like Obama getting the Nobel Prize.”

Paul Sonne And Guy Chazan. New Ledger Overlord Ben Domenech was kind enough to send this story to me (we are both soccer fans). As I told him in an e-mail, it would have been truly impressive if in response to receiving the Nobel Prize, President Obama said something along the lines of “guys, put this in the attic for the moment; I think I can do something in the next 3-4 years to truly claim it.”

But he passed up that opportunity. And now, the jokes abound.
