The Sordid Tale Of John Edwards

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on September 20, 2009

And to think that this guy could have been Vice President five years ago, and wanted to be President last year.

If John Edwards were a Republican, of course, the scandal surrounding his personal life would dominate news coverage, with pundits telling us that since Republicans are the “family values” party, the hypocrisy of a Republican deviating from “family values” justifies the enhanced coverage. But as far as I know, there is nothing in the Democratic party platform lauding the kind of behavior Edwards has engaged in, which makes one wonder why Edwards should be immune from charges of hypocrisy. The man ran three campaigns–two for President, and one for Vice President–telling us that we could trust him in a position of national leadership, and stating or implying throughout his campaigns that he had and has the moral fiber necessary to lead America. If his behavior with Rielle Hunter doesn’t make him a hypocrite, I don’t know what will.
