The Lameness Of Charlie Rangel

I trust that I don’t have to go into detail concerning just how desperate the House Ways and Means Committee Chairman’s latest round of excuse-mongering really is. I mean, this website alone has done a fairly diligent job of chronicling and cataloging all of the many ways in which Rangel has shown that he is not exactly possessed of what one would call “sterling ethics.” No one actually has to take the time to point out that (a) race has nothing to do with the reasons Rangel is being investigated, (b) the reaction against Rangel’s ethical lapses has nothing whatsoever to do with any kind of supposed racial backlash against Barack Obama’s election as President (whatever one says about one’s agreements or disagreements with the President, any and all sensible people can and do celebrate the fact that Barack Obama’s election shows how far we have progressed as a country on the issue of race), and (c) inserting the issue of race into this discussion–as Rangel does–is the worst kind of demagoguery. Do they?
