Either give General McChrystal the troops he needs, or the general resigns.
A perfectly reasonable statement of the options. McChrystal cannot do his job if he doesn’t get more troops, and if he doesn’t get the troops he asks for, he is perfectly within his rights to resign in protest. As for the Obama Administration, it came into office telling us that it would commit itself to winning the war in Afghanistan. Either it will have to deliver on that promise, or it will have to admit that it wasn’t up to the job in fulfilling its own foreign and national security policy objectives.
