I know that we are supposed to believe that Barack Obama is a political world-beater, given the poll ratings that he enjoys. But Sean Trende shows that those poll ratings may not be all that they are cracked up to be.
Does this mean that the President is in trouble? Clearly not. It remains better to be him, than to be the opposition. But “events, dear boy, events” drive politics, and it is silly to think that the status quo in political affairs will hold for a very long time. And when one examines Barack Obama’s poll ratings in context, one sees that there is nothing extraordinary about them, which may lead to weakness and vulnerability in his political standing down the road.
Something for the White House to think about. Something for the GOP to think about as well, even as so many pundits urge the Republicans to get out of the politics business altogether.
