A Surprisingly Unpopular "Popular" President

I wouldn’t hit the panic button just yet, if I were a member of the Obama White House. But a 58% approval rating, while good, is really nothing to write home about. Of course, the honeymoon was going to come to an end at some point, but I don’t think that people expected it to come to an end so soon. And I am betting that a 58% mark is atypically low for a President in the first six months of his term; the headline for this story from last month notwithstanding, Obama is in the middle of the pack when it comes to approval ratings.

Not bad, but not earth-shattering either. Barack Obama is surely a tough and clever politician. But these numbers prove that he is not invincible.
