Nancy Pelosi Knew About Waterboarding

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on May 8, 2009

090426_pelosi_ap_297And we have the papers to prove it:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was briefed on the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” on terrorist suspect Abu Zubaydah in September 2002, according to a report prepared by the Director of National Intelligence’s office and obtained by ABC News.

The report, submitted to the Senate Intelligence Committee and other Capitol Hill officials Wednesday, appears to contradict Pelosi’s statement last month that she was never told about the use of waterboarding or other special interrogation tactics. Instead, she has said, she was told only that the Bush administration had legal opinions that would have supported the use of such techniques.

That the Speaker failed to tell the truth about what she knew, and now has been caught trying to mislead the public, ought to rise to the level of scandal. And it certainly would have risen to the level of scandal by now if the Speaker were a Republican.

That the Speaker failed to tell the truth (LIED) about what she knew, and now has been caught trying to mislead (LYING TO) the public, ought to rise to the level of scandal. The weasel words take to long to write. Plain English is better.

Weasel words? From Yousefzadeh? Come now. Perhaps one should do one’s homework before leaving weasel-comments.
