Judging Sotomayor

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on May 29, 2009

My comments on a speech the judge has given–one that has gotten a lot of attention–can be found over at the Arena.

Obviously, judges give lots of speeches and say lots of things that end up being controversial. We don’t want to discourage that per se; I prefer speeches that make us think to those that deaden the intellect. At the same time, speechmakers are responsible for their words, and if we find the statements made in those speeches irresponsible, then no one should be surprised when criticism follows.
