A Belated Happy Birthday . . .

by Pejman Yousefzadeh on March 22, 2009

to Johann Sebastian Bach, whose birthday was yesterday. Say what you will about your Mozarts, your Beethovens, your Chopins–I love them as well–they stood on the shoulders of a great and titanic figure in music. Bach’s contributions to the realm of the Terpsichorean Muse cannot be overstated. Nor can they be celebrated enough.

The great musical master once said “I was obliged to be industrious. Whoever is equally industrious will succeed equally well.” Kind of him to be so modest, but for once, Bach must be found in the wrong; one could be ten times more industrious than Bach was without reaching a tenth of the musical genius and artistic glory he so palpably made his.

Happy Birthday, JSB.
